During the day
The Observatory Science Centre is a really good day out. You will need a
good couple of hours to go round all the interactive scientific exhibits.
When we where there they had exhibits grouped in the following topics:
Forces and Gravity
Time
Earth and Beyond
Light and Colour
Outdoor Exhibits (these were great fun)
Puzzles and Illusions
In the evening
In our opinion the evening was better than the day because during the day
you did not have access to the telescopes (for obvious reasons).
We went to the Moon watch special. An interesting evening were we had the
opportunity to draw craters under the supervision of an accomplished artist.
Seeing the moon from the telescope pictured, was amazing. In addition to
seeing the moon, we also saw Saturn and its rings through multiple telescopes,
a cluster of around 100 million stars some 15,000 light years away and a
pair of stars that orbited each other.
Four of the telescopes where working in the evening. Perhaps the most interesting
one was in the dome where the floor rises up to the telescope, rather than
having to move the telescope.
If you are going in the evening make sure you rap up warm and have enough
money to buy a cup of tea!
All in all a recommended day out.
