Genealogy

Building your own family tree is a time consuming and often expensive hobby. We have found that sharing the work with other members of the family really speeds up the process. It also gets everyone involved in their own history. There are few things that are more important than history and family. We find that our children love learning about their relatives from the past, as it gives them a sense of identity now.

We have used a number of paid genealogy sites over the years but would have no hesitation in recommending Ancestry.co.uk This site has enable us to trace back hundred of years further than we managed before. It also enables the family historian to create a detailed profile for each person in the tree with photographs, audio, video, stories etc. A really great site.

We also use www.GenesReunited.co.uk, although the interface is not as nice, it does have a lot of people connected and you may find it useful.

If you feel that you may be related to royalty or at least the aristocracy of the United Kingdom, Ireland or the United States of America, you should take a look at Burke's Peerage & Gentry .

Another site you may find useful is FamilyHistory.org which is a service provided by The church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints.

Genealogy Events

Around the UK there are lots of events to go to. We are hoping that the organisers will be listing their date here. However, in the mean time why not have a look at the Society of Genealogists site. They run lots of events throughout the year.
