Carnivals
In Catholic countries like Italy or Brazil carnivals are religious festivals
held before Lent in February or March. Rio in Brazil is perhaps the most
famous carnival in the world and the carnival in Venice Italy is a great
place to visit. However in the UK, the only religious carnival tradition
that we can think of is pancake day (shrove Tuesday).
Carnivals in the UK tend to be held later in the year. Many of the really
well known ones are held during the summer holidays around August time.
The Nottinghill Carnival in London is a good example of this.
