Agricultural Shows
The UK plays host to hundreds of agricultural, horticultural and equine
shows each and every year.
So what can you expect to see at an Agricultural show. At a large annual
event like the North
Devon Show there are host of livestock classes including Alpacas,
Cattle, Goats, Horses, Sheep, Show Jumping and an Open Dog Show. In addition,
you will find a flower marquee, food hall, craft tent, poultry marquee.
There are demonstrations by gun dogs, racing ferrets, rural skills. As
well as vintage vehicles and a fun fair.
Other things you may see at events include: Carriage driving, show jumping,
shire horses, show ponies, dog shows, sheep dog handling, etc
Almost all shows will have some form of prize giving for best in breed
shows.
Smaller events may be purely livestock events.
If you want to study agriculture in the UK, the Royal
Agricultural College in Gloucestershire
is a good place to start. Or if you are north of the border in Scotland,
you could take a look at the Scottish
Agricultural College.
The Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)
has a wealth of information on agriculture. When we did a search, we found
more than 65,000 documents.
There is an Association of Show and Agricultural
Organisations that has been running since 1923
